Community Outreach

“God’s Work. Our Hands.”

Service Project Sunday, Sept 9

“God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday is an opportunity to celebrate who we are as the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) – one church, freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor.

Service activities offer an opportunity for us to explore one of our most basic convictions as Lutherans: that all of life in Jesus Christ – every act of service, in every daily calling, in every corner of life – flows freely from a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.  Let’s do God’s work together!

For our service project this year, we will be packaging items in “Blessings Bags” for the Narrow Door to distribute to the homeless.  You can participate by donating any of these items:

toothbrushes / toothpaste

wet one wipes (small packs) / small bars of soap

shampoo /conditioner (small containers)

white socks…both men and women’s

water in bottles

granola bars / beef jerky

mints or gum

razors

Items should be new and in the original packaging. A donation box is available in the Church Sanctuary.

If you are able to join us for our “God’s work. Our hands.” Sunday “Blessing Bag” assembly and lunch on September 9 after the 11 am Service, please contact the church office to sign up.

Thank you!

FIND

“I was hungry and you gave me food…”

Distribution takes place on the 4th Tuesday of every month beginning at 8:30 am.

Feeding people, both spiritually and physically, is at the very heart of the Christian faith and our church’s life. St. John’s has been a distribution site for the Food in Need of Distribution (FIND) program serving those in need of food assistance in our community since 1995. The program is funded solely by members and friends of St. John’s Lutheran.

Our distribution schedule is the fourth Tuesday of the month from 8:30 – 9:30 am. First time recipients need proof of residency (gas or electric bills, drivers license, etc.) Anyone from other area of the Coachella Valley will be served on their first visit and then given a directory for distribution sites in their area.

If you would like more information, or to volunteer, please contact the church office.

For more information on how you can volunteer with St. John’s, please contact our church office.
