About St. John’s
St John’s has been serving Coachella Valley communities for over 50 years. As Lutheran Christians, the good news of God’s unconditional love revealed in Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit is the foundation for everything we say and do. We live out this belief in weekly worship services of Word and Sacrament, Christian education and spiritual nurture, prayer, fellowship, and reaching out to those in need in our community.
As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, St. John’s is in partnership with thousands of Lutheran congregations across the country in supporting Lutheran Disaster Relief and Lutheran Social Services, one of the largest non-profit social service networks in the U.S.
“To Know Christ and to Make Christ Known”
As followers of Christ, we share a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, which forms us as a community of faith and frees us to love and serve God and our neighbors. We live this through
- worship services in which we share the gospel through Word and Sacrament and song
- educational opportunities for all ages that promote and develop spiritual maturity
- pastoral care for those in need through prayer and caring ministries
- fellowship experiences that celebrate our relationship with God and each other
- community engagement through which we serve our neighbors, promote peace and justice, and seek the wellbeing of all people
St. John’s has three weekly worship services, each with a distinct style and all centered in the experience of God’s grace. All services include song, sermon, prayer, and Communion.
Saturday Night Light Service
Our Saturday Night Light Service is held every Saturday afternoon from 4 pm to 4:45 pm. In addition to contemporary songs, Scripture readings, sermon, Confession and Communion, this service includes lighting candles in prayer and joining together for Prayer Around the Cross.
Our 9:00 am Worship Service is built on a traditional Lutheran liturgy with an emphasis on beloved hymns, the Word, prayer, and Holy Communion. Laura Stave, our music director, leads the congregation in song, accompanied by Patrick Karst.
Our 11:00 am Worship Service includes a more contemporary liturgy with an emphasis on uplifting music, the Word, prayer, and Holy Communion. The service features Laura Stave leading the congregation in song, and band members Danny Flahive on bass, Patrick Karst on piano, and Wayne Boyer on percussion.
